Larval Hosts & Plants:

This species is polyphagous in its larval stages, feeding on numerous species of palms from many genera and also on rattans (Calamus spp.), all belonging to family Arecaceae. Some of the commonly used larval host plants in southern India are Cocos nucifera, Licuala grandis, Caryota urens, Phoenix acaulis, Phoenix lourierii and Calamus rotang. Recently, L. Shyamal has recorded eggs, caterpillars and pupae of this butterfly on Cyperus alternifolius (Cyperaceae) in Bengaluru, southern India, which constitutes a new family record for this species (see images ag954 to ag958).
